Sidman man accused of motorcycle theft

PORTAGE — A Sidman man who was stealing a motorcycle was confronted by the victim as he was riding away from the residence, state police in Blair County said.

Police said Landon Dee Reighard of Onnalinda Road was riding the motorcycle away from the home of Matthew Alan Stombaugh of 985 Diamond Lane, Portage, about 1:30 a.m. Thursday.

Stombaugh followed Reighard and confronted him about the theft, police said. The thief then agreed to return to Stombaugh’s residence along with the bike. Stombaugh detained him until police arrived.

Reighard was charged with burglary, criminal trespass and theft and jailed in the Blair County Prison in lieu of $35,000 bond.

In other police-related news:

• A 17-year-old Colver boy suffered an injury of unknown severity after he was thrown from his ATV about 5 p.m. Thursday.

State police said the boy was westbound on Route 4002, Snake Road, in Cambria Township when he lost control of the all-terrain vehicle. He then hit some loose gravel on the right side of the road, causing the ATV to hit the right embankment and throwing the rider.

The vehicle continued moving, crossing the left lane and flipping several times before coming to a stop upside down on the left embankment.

The youth was not wearing a helmet, state police said.

• An intake supervisor at a drug treatment center in Indiana is jailed on charges she sold $8,600 worth of heroin to an undercover informant.

The state attorney general says 46-year-old Louann Uber of Indiana worked at the Open Door Alcohol and Other Drug Treatment Center in her hometown when she allegedly sold the drugs earlier this year. The agency’s director did not immediately return calls.

Online court records don’t list an attorney for Uber, who faces a preliminary hearing Thursday.

Authorities say Uber was a mid-level dealer who moved heroin in multiple “brick” quantities. A brick contains 50 single-dose bags of heroin, that each sell for about $25 on the street.

• Route 22 through Westmoreland, Indiana and Cambria counties is being targeted by state police for traffic violations.

The effort began July 13 and will continue the rest of the summer.

Police said the saturation patrols are being done to reduce crashes and crash-related injuries and fatalities. In addition to the regular traffic enforcement, Traffic Enforcement Saturation Team members already have issued 94 traffic citations and 99 written warnings for various violations.

• A Greensburg man is jailed on charges that he shot his girlfriend’s 4-month-old daughter in the forehead with a BB pistol.

Greensburg police say 21-year-old Carlos Rivera III told them he was cleaning the gun when it discharged, and that the baby was hit by a ricocheting BB. But police say they found no marks on the ceiling where Rivera says that happened.

The BB passed through a space between the infant’s skull and brain and remains lodged in her head.

Police say it’s unclear if the baby will have long-term health problems as a result.

Police say the incident happened June 21 when they arrested Rivera Thursday. Online court records show Rivera faces a preliminary hearing on aggravated assault and other charges Thursday, but list no defense attorney.
