Police: Duo used kids to deliver drugs

EBENSBURG — A husband and wife face drug charges after authorities said they enticed three children to deliver the drugs for them.

The Cambria County Drug Task Force charged Stacey Wholaver, 30, and Lawrence Wholaver, 46, of Northern Cambria Township on Monday with endangering the welfare of children and multiple drug-related offenses, District Attorney Kelly Callihan announced on Tuesday.

The arrests were made after the task force received information that the Wholavers were allegedly using Stacey Wholaver’s children ages 5, 6 and 12 to peddle prescription pills – including the painkiller Lortab – in the northern end of the county, officials said.

Between Aug. 31, 2012, and Sept. 19, 2012, the drug task force executed three controlled drug buys using a confidential informant.

Cambria County Children and Youth Services placed the children in the care of family members, said Kevin Price, drug task force supervisor.

“They used kids to deliver the drugs,” Callihan said.

“I feel these children are also victims of these adults who put them in the situation to commit these crimes.”

The Wholavers were arraigned by District Judge Frederick Creany of Ebensburg and sent to the Cambria County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bond each.

Northern Cambria Police Department, the state Attorney General’s Office and Cambria County Youth Services assisted in the drug investigation.
