SOMERSET —
A Berlin man, who authorities said was captured by two brothers after trying to rob a woman making a bank deposit, was sentenced Wednesday.
Somerset County President Judge John M. Cascio sentenced Joshua Dean Foy, 30, to serve three to six years in state prison after pleading guilty to robbing the woman.
Berlin police said Foy injured Lori Shaw, the office manager of Harber’s Riverside Market, when he wrestled a bank bag from her as she made a deposit at First National Bank on Main Street on July 9.
Shaw, who was pushed to the ground, was later admitted to Somerset Hospital, where she underwent surgery for a hip fracture.
Cascio also ordered Foy to pay $22,698 to Mutual Benefit Insurance Co. as reimbursement for Shaw’s medical bills.
Police said Foy had been casing the market to learn when employees made bank deposits.
As Shaw approached the bank with her deposit bag, Foy stopped her at the door and scuffled with her before snatching the bag and running away, police said.
Brothers Dakota Glessner, 19, and Cody Glessner, 23, heard Shaw’s cry from their nearby home and chased Foy two blocks through parking lots and front yards.
They caught Foy in the 600 block of South Street.
Foy’s attorney, Michael Kuhn of Somerset, said his client is remorseful.
“He takes full responsibility for his actions,” Kuhn said. “He is very sorry for any injuries to the victim.”
Assistant District Attorney Hannah Meyers called the sentence appropriate.
