Construction worker dies in fall at UPJ

JOHNSTOWN — A Davidsville man working for a State College construction company suffered a fatal fall off the first floor of a building at Pitt-Johnstown on Monday morning.

George Adams III, 57, was pronounced dead at 1:59 p.m. in the intensive-care unit of Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, said Cambria County Coroner Dennis Kwiatkowski.

An autopsy was scheduled today at the hospital to determine the cause of death, he said.

East Hills Emergency Medical Service was dispatched to the scene shortly before 8:30 a.m.

The victim fell approximately 14 feet to the ground.

“We’re very saddened to hear about the accident,” said Pitt-Johnstown spokesman Bob Knipple. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family.”

Donnie Pollock, the project manager for Nevin Stitzer Contracting, added, “One of our gentlemen fell. We’re waiting for our investigation to continue.”

Nevin Stitzer is a subcontractor involved in constructing the school’s new Nursing and Health Sciences Building where the incident occurred.

Kwiatkowski said the victim was working in an area by himself and that no one saw the worker fall.

Someone went to check on him and found him lying on the pavement, he said.
