Series will focus on the good people do

JOHNSTOWN — There is some good news on the horizon.

The Tribune-Democrat announced on Tuesday that it plans to start a series in January that will focus on people helping one another.

Acts of Kindness is set to debut Jan. 1 and appear in the pages of The Tribune-Democrat every Tuesday throughout the month. The newspaper is asking readers to submit, in 100 words or fewer, how someone made a positive impact on their lives.

“We know that people get tired of reading negative news,” Tribune-Democrat Editor Eric Knopsnyder said.

“As journalists, it’s our duty to report what’s happening in our communities, and the crime stories and court cases certainly are relevant. But that doesn’t mean that we can’t find and share good news as well. That’s why we’re so excited about the ‘Acts of Kindness’ series. It’s a chance to showcase all of the great things that people in our area do on a daily basis.”

Local corporate sponsors have joined with The Tribune-Democrat to help with the series.

Submissions for Acts of Kindness, which can include relevant photos as well as stories, should include contact information. They can be emailed to kindness@tribdem.com or mailed to The Tribune-Democrat.

Tribune-Democrat Publisher Robin Quillon hopes that the series will help inspire others as well.

“I believe, no matter how difficult times may be, we can always highlight the good that is happening all around us every day,” Quillon said. “We hope the stories inspire all of us to reach higher, and make a difference, wherever we stand in our communities.”
