The fourth annual “Thunder on the Mountain’’ memorial ride to the Flight 93 Memorial Chapel near here will be held Sunday.
Bikers and those with other vehicles will converge at noon at the chapel, here a ceremony will take place at 12:30 p.m. honoring the 40 innocent victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, crash of United Airlines Flight 93 in a field near here.
The plane crashed as passengers attempted to take control of the aircraft from its hijackers.
Larry Powell of Stoystown, a retired Army brigadier general, will speak at the ceremony.
Sports camp to aid asthma sufferers
LORETTO – St. Francis University’s DiSepio Institute for Rural Health and Wellness will host the fourth annual free sports camp for boys and girls ages 7-14 with asthma.
It will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 25 at the Stokes Athletics Center on campus.
It is offered in collaboration with Allegheny General Hospital and the university men’s and women’s basketball and men’s soccer teams.
Participants can choose to participate in either basketball or soccer. Students from the physical therapy and physician assistant science programs will assist with the camp.
Services provided will include basketball or soccer instruction, educational sessions on asthma treatment for parents and children, free medical screenings, lunch with varsity basketball and soccer players, and prizes and giveaways.
Three medical doctors specializing in asthma – Dr. Jeffrey Rosch of Altoona and
Dr. Deborah Gentile and Dr. David Skoner, both of Pittsburgh – will participate in the educational sessions.
Educational sessions also will be held for parents.

Library store holding sale on used books
The Inclined to Read used-book store will hold a paperback blowout sale throughout this month.
The sale, run by Friends of the Cambria County Library, will take place in the lobby of the David A. Glosser Memorial Library Building, 249 Main St. in downtown Johnstown.
Bookstore hours are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
Paperbacks will cost 25¢ each or five for a dollar. Funds raised will go to the library.
Author to speak on slave ‘railroad’
Judith Redline Coopey will read excerpts from her book and discuss the underground railroad in western and central Pennsylvania at noon Wednesday at the Cambria County Library, 248 Main St., Johnstown. The program is free and open to the public.
She will follow that with a book signing from 5 to 7 p.m. at The Book Rack, 131 Berwick Road.
Born and raised in Altoona and Williamsburg, Coopey is a graduate of Penn State and Arizona State University.
She has been a history teacher and a writer for most of her life.
“Redfield Farm” tells the story of a Quaker woman, Ann Redfield, whose brother, Jesse, gets her involved with runaway slaves and secret routes to freedom.

Certification offered in food safety
SOMERSET – A ServSafe Food Safety Certification and Recertification Training Course will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 20 and from 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 27 at the Somerset County Campus of Allegany College of Maryland on Glades Pike.
An examination for those needing initial certification will be held at 1 p.m. Sept. 27 at the campus.

The state Department of Agriculture requires food service operations to employ at least one supervisory person certified in food safety.
Establishments not meeting this requirement have 90 days after their inspection date to comply, according to information from the Somerset County Extension Office.
