SOMERSET — Four people escaped a fire that broke out in their mobile home in Somerset Township about 2 p.m. Friday.

The fire started beneath the porch area of the trailer located along Coxes Creek Road, said Jim Clark, second assistant chief of Somerset Volunteer Fire Department.

Someone mistakenly dropped a cigarette between the porch and an addition built onto the home. The insulation began to smolder and set the wood on fire, Clark said.

Two adults and two children younger than age 5 got out in time, he said.

One of the adults, Kristin Durst, was taken to Somerset Hospital with breathing trouble, Clark said.

Damage to the home was estimated at $2,500.

Firefighters from Somerset, Bakersville and Sipesville responded along with Somerset Area Ambulance.
