JOHNSTOWN —
At 6-foot-5, 295 pounds, Zach Rugg is accustomed to making a big impression.
The Bishop McCort High School two-way lineman was hard to miss throughout a series of summer camps and another solid season by the Crushers football team.
His body of work enabled Rugg to earn a scholarship to play for Connecticut in the Big East Conference. A two-time, first-team All-State selection, Rugg signed a letter of intent on Wednesday, the national signing day.
“They’re looking at me at offensive line, most likely at the guard position,” said Rugg, a three-year starter with the Crushers. “Their focus is mostly that they want me at right guard. They want me to compete right away in the first year.
“The second year they expect me to be starting. It’s a lot of pressure but it’s a challenge I want to face.”
