JOHNSTOWN —
Andres Taylor recently spent a couple days filming a scene for the upcoming motion picture “One For the Money” in Pittsburgh.
His role was minor. While the Johnstown boxer appreciated the “face time” he received in front of the camera, Taylor is ready to return to his real job.
Taylor will fight Adam Harris on Saturday night at Sovereign Bank Baseball Stadium in York. The eight-round cruiserweight bout will be a co-main event.
“I know Adam Harris has a decent record,” Taylor said of the 10-3-0 fighter from Worcester, Mass. “His last fight he fought Wayne Braithwaite and lost by TKO. Braithwaite was the WBC cruiserweight champion at one time and his name has been mentioned as someone I might eventually meet. Adam Harris was a perfect opponent for me to fight to see where I’m at compared to Wayne Braithwaite.”
Taylor is 15-1-1 with six knockouts. He won by unanimous decision in eight rounds against Julius Fogle on June 10 at the Pasquerilla Conference Center. Taylor has won seven straight fights since his lone setback to Leo Bercier on June 27, 2009.
“Training is going excellent,” said Taylor, 31. “The model is to get better and keep getting better. That’s where we’re at right now. Get better. Every day we’re getting better. I have a 6-foot-4 sparring partner and a couple pro partners. I’m getting really terrific work.”
Harris has seven knockouts.
The 35-year-old has dropped three straight fights, including the past two by TKO. He had won his first 10 pro bouts prior to the slide.
“We have 80 people coming down,” Taylor said. “They like the York shows and this one is outdoors. I’m excited to be back there.”
Taylor displayed some versatility when he was filmed for “One For the Money.”
“I did a little part in “One For the Money” for two days last week,” he said. “That was pretty cool. I had a small part, a face part. We were next to the bad guy in the movie.
“We’re at the boxing gym and the bad guy in the movie is an ex-boxer.”
The movie stars Katherine Heigl and is based on author Janet Evanovich’s novel of the same name.
“They put me and another guy from our gym in a couple different parts,” Taylor said.
“We were working all day. We were doing the same scene for three hours in a row, standing on the corner near the boxing gym. They started filming from a distance, down the street. Eventually you could see us up close.
“We were working out in the sun for three or four hours at a time,” he added. “It’s weird how they make a movie. I never really understood how they make a movie until I was in this. Those actors do put in a lot of work.”
Taylor said he might be called back to the set.
“It was in Pittsburgh on the North Side. They’re doing another part in the gym,” Taylor said. “We’ll be the guys in the gym training. We’ll have to go back for two or three days in August. I get about 10 seconds of face time in the movie, which will be great for my resume.”
