Mount hands Medaille 1st loss
CRESSON – Mount Aloysius handed visiting Medaille College its first loss of the season Sunday in a
65-64 victory.
The Mounties (11-8) got a game-high 19 points from Armond Perez while Harold Clark, Brian Collins and Richard McNutt added
10 points apiece.
Keith Hack topped Medaille, which trailed 38-34 at the half, with 16 points and Chris Moscato had 13.
Medaille (20-1) outrebounded Mount Aloysius 37-26, but the Mounties’ Tyrone Lowery had a game-high nine boards.
Late bucket lifts IUP to win
CLARION – Kierstin Filla drove the length of the floor and scored with eight seconds remaining and Clarion missed three layups in the final three seconds, allowing IUP to escape with an 84-83 victory over the Golden Eagles.
The Crimson Hawks (13-7, 6-2 in PSAC West) wiped out an 18-point Clarion lead with less than 14 minutes remaining to win their third in a row. The Golden Eagles (11-10, 2-6) lost to IUP for the 10th straight time over the past five seasons.
Eryn Withers scored 22 points and Bishop McCort graduate Sarah Pastorek extended her run of
20-point games to three with 21.
Withers added a team-high nine rebounds, one more than Pastorek, and Pastorek dished out four assists while grabbing four steals.
Lizzie Suwala hit five 3-pointers and led Clarion with 28 points.
IUP moved into a second-place tie with California in the PSAC West after the Vulcans dropped a 72-61 decision to undefeated Gannon on Sunday. The Crimson Hawks, who lost to the Vulcans 69-60 earlier this season, play at Cal on Feb. 17.

CRESSON – Medaille College raised its record to 19-2 with a
67-55 victory over host Mount Aloysius on Sunday.
Kacie Mills, Marney Ankoma-Mensa and Susanne Black scored 10 points each for the visitors.
Lindsey Bush scored a game-high 17 points for Mount Aloysius (5-14), which also got 11 points from Kaylee Keagy.
Holsinger to be honored tonight
Central Cambria senior Brian Holsinger will be honored at 7 p.m. tonight before the start of the Red Devils’ varsity game against Bishop Guilfoyle.
Holsinger was nominated for the McDonald’s All American High School Basketball Team.

The listed opponent for Northern Cambria in Friday night’s Laurel Mountain varsity hockey game at Cambria County War Memorial was Ferndale.
What the Reapers encountered was an emotional and purple-clad Jess’ Army.
The Yellow Jackets were able to cultivate the emotion and high spirits to a 7-1 win in the second Jess Ambroe Classic. -

Rams roll past Blue Jays
It had been a while since the Richland Rams had played a varsity hockey game. Though the Rams’ last action came on Jan. 12, Richland showed little rust as it trounced Conemaugh Valley 12-1 Friday evening at Cambria County War Memorial.
Richland (7-3-2) posted four goals in the game’s first 4:33 as it buried the Blue Jays (1-14) early. -

Mountain Cats look to get Pecora closer to No. 500
In some ways, it’s the perfect time for Pitt-Johnstown wrestling coach Pat Pecora to be reflective.
After all, his eighth-ranked Mountain Cats will be holding their final home match this evening when Anderson visits at 7 p.m. Pecora will be saying goodbye to six seniors, which is always an emotional time for him.
But he’s not ready to look back on his legendary career, even as he closes in on his 500th career win. -
Judge sets May trial date in Sandusky abuse case
A judge said Friday he would decide soon whether to grant former Penn State assistant coach Jerry Sandusky greater freedom – and visits from his young grandchildren – while he awaits trial on child sex-abuse charges, but prosecutors countered that Sandusky’s home is not a safe place for children.
Judge John Cleland set a tentative trial date of May 14 for Sandusky and promised to rule quickly on a number of other issues, including dueling requests for changes to his bail restrictions. -
Jordan Staal expected to return to Pens’ lineup today
Jordan Staal’s left knee is fine. His face, however, could use some work.
The Pittsburgh Penguins center plans to play today against Winnipeg in his first game since injuring the knee in a loss to the New York Rangers on Jan. 6.
The road back has gone smoothly enough until Staal started practicing with his teammates this week. -
UPDATED Bedford advances in PIAA wrestling in odd way
It’s not often that a team can win a match at the PIAA Class AA Dual-Meet Championships while giving up two forfeits, but that’s exactly what Bedford did this afternoon at the Giant Center.
In fact, the Bisons won 30-29 over Pen Argyl because they forfeited.
