Injury takes out PSU point guard
STATE COLLEGE – Penn State point guard Tim Frazier will miss the rest of the season with a ruptured left Achilles tendon, a devastating blow for the rebuilding Big Ten program.
Frazier was injured about six minutes into the Nittany Lions’
85-60 loss Sunday to Akron at the Puerto Rico Tipoff.
Coach Patrick Chambers said Frazier underwent surgery Tuesday, with a recovery period of 6-12 months. The team plans to apply for a fifth year of eligibility for Frazier on a medical redshirt.
A preseason All-Big Ten selection, Frazier finished the year averaging 16.3 points over four games. The senior led the Big Ten last year in assists (6.2 per game), and also paced team in scoring (18.8 points) and steals (2.4).
Lady Cats drop home opener
Kaitlynn Fratz scored 18 of her 21 points in the second half to help Pitt-Johnstown erase a 15-point deficit, but Bluefield State hit a pair of free-throws with seven seconds remaining to defeat the Lady Cats 81-79 in their home opener.
Tiffany Moorer knocked down two free throws with seven seconds on the clock to break a 79-all tie and give Bluefield State the victory. Tasia Nolan had 26 points for Bluefield State.
Mount Aloysius nips Waynesburg
WAYNESBURG – Lauryn Colmer sank two free throws with seven seconds left to put Mount Aloysius in the lead, and the Mounties held off three last-second Waynesburg attempts in a 65-64 victory.
Lindsey Sammarco had 27 points and Becky Bard netted 19 for Mount Aloysius.

3-pointers and 15 free throws compared with Waynesburg’s two
3-pointers and 12 points from the line.
Mount men get victory at home
CRESSON – Mount Aloysius used a balanced scoring attack to defeat Penn State-New Kensington 75-52 in a non-conference match-up.
Every player on the Mount Aloysius roster made it into the scoring column, with Jeff Stem‘s 14 points leading the way. Dameon Turner, Tanner Thomas, and Demetrius Davis each added 10 points.
UPJ torpedoes Bluefield State
Pitt-Johnstown used a 19-5 run over an eight-minute span of the first half to roll in an 89-62 WVIAC win over Bluefield State in the Sports Center.
Nick Novak scored a game-high 23 points while Ian Vescovi had 19 points and 12 rebounds for 3-1 UPJ (1-1 in the WVIAC). Jordan Miller had 20 points and a game-high nine assists.
Ohio State clips SFU women
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Tayler Hill scored 23 points and the No. 16 Ohio State women pulled away in the second half for a 70-54 victory over St. Francis.
The Buckeyes (3-1) got double-figure scoring from four others.
Amber Stokes had 12 points and Darryce Moore, Martina Ellerbe and Ameryst Alston added 10 apiece.
Despite that balance and Hill’s sharpshooting, the Red Flash (3-1) trailed just 32-29 at halftime. Then, the Buckeyes began to wear down St. Francis.
Alli Williams led the Red Flash with 16 points before fouling out. Alexa Hayward chipped in 13 and Shene Fleming 11.
St. Francis, just 4 of 16 on
3-pointers, was whistled for 22 fouls to eight for Ohio State. The Buckeyes had a big edge at the foul line, going 17 for 28 to 6 of 8 for St. Francis. Hill (8 for 10) hit two more foul shots than the St. Francis team.
St. Francis men will host Colgate
LORETTO – St. Francis University opens its 12-game home slate tonight when Colgate visits DeGol Arena for a 5 p.m. Thanksgiving Eve match up.
The one-game stop in Loretto breaks up a string of six straight road games for the Red Flash.
St. Francis (0-3) is 32-7 in home openers at the Stokes Center. Steph Wyatt’s 16.3 points a game ranks sixth in the NEC. Ollie Jackson’s 16 points a game ranks seventh.
The Raiders are 2-3, including a road win over Coppin State on Sunday and a win at home against Marist. Colgate opened the season with losses to Illinois and Marquette.
Williams gains dual honors
LORETTO – St. Francis University women’s basketball junior forward Alli Williams earned national recognition as the College Madness National Mid-Major Player of the Week.
Williams also earned the Choice Hotels Northeast Conference Co-Player of the Week honor for the second consecutive week.
Williams put up 22 points and pulled down a career-high 19 rebounds in helping St. Francis beat Bucknell 62-54 on the road last week.
On Sunday, Williams scored 22 points, tallied 13 rebounds and had a career-high seven assists in a winning effort against Akron in Loretto, 74-73.
Williams had a double-double in all three games as the Red Flash started the season 3-0 before falling at nationally ranked Ohio State on Tuesday.
Williams has taken been NEC player of the week five times in her career.
