Local sports briefs 4-13-10

JOHNSTOWN — SOFTBALL

High School

Blacklick Valley 12 Rockwood 2

NANTY GLO - Winning pitcher Lauren Wiegman and teammate Alison Verba were both 2-for-3 with Verba slapping a bases loaded triple as Blacklick Valley defeated visiting Rockwood in a four and a half-inning game Monday.

Jenna Skubik and Carley Smith each added a double while Hailee Scott was 1-for-1 and had three walks for the unbeaten Vikings (5-0).

Central Cambria 14 Forest Hills 6

EBENSBURG - Lindsay Beyer was 4-for-4 including a home run and a double, and drove in four runs as Central Cambria handed visiting Forest Hills its first loss.

Breanne James hit a pair of two-run home runs and walked twice while teammate Taylor Swatsworth was 3-for-4 with a home run and scored four runs for the Red Devils (5-1).

Ali Vogatsky was the winning pitcher, giving up 10 hits, striking out five and walking three.

For the Rangers (4-1), losing pitcher Kate Wolfhope was 2-for-4 including a double, and scored two runs.

Windber 6, Shade 5

WINDBER - Jill Penatzer scored the winning run on a passed ball in the bottom of the seventh as Windber earned its first win.

Chloe Huston was 2-for-4, including a triple for the game-tying RBI, and scored a run for the Ramblers. Teammate Alyssa Ott was 2-for-3 with a triple, and scored a run while Brooke Schreyer was 2-for-4 and scored a run.

Casey Roberts was 2-for-4 and scored a run while Erin Spinelli added a hit and scored two runs for the Panthers (2-1).

Johnstown 17

Bishop McCort 3

Alex Teeter, Kassie Sabo and Kiertsen Szczur drove in three runs each to lead Johnstown to a five-inning win at Bishop McCort.

Amber Maurer went 2-for-2 and scored three times while Teeter scored twice.

Sabo and Szczur each singled, doubled and scored a run and Amber Mangus had a two-run triple.

Emily Basile had two hits for the Crimson Crushers.

Richland 7, Somerset 1

Richland’s Kaleigh Hudak went 2-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored, and Lauren Keffer had two hits, including a double as Richland beat visiting Somerset.

Richland’s Alexis Dona went 2-for-3 with a double and one run scored.

Nicki Mihalik struck out 12 for the Rams.

Somerset’s Jamie Emert went 2-for-3 with a double and one run scored. Nicole Landis had two hits.

Bishop Carroll 2

Penn Cambria 0

CRESSON - Junior Kate Reese struck out 17 batters in a losing cause.

Ashley Shook doubled while Lindsy Sammarco singled twice and drove in a run for Bishop Carroll.

Kadee Everhart doubled for the hosts.

Conemaugh Valley 13 Meyersdale 2

Jen Percinsky had two hits including a triple and drove in four runs and Conemaugh Valley pelted Meyersdale in a five-inning game.

Darla Pollino was 2-for-3 for the Blue Jays (3-1), who also got two hits each from Jamie Cekada and Carley Yanko.

Ashley Stahl had two hits for the Red Raiders.

BASEBALL

High School

Forest Hills 7

Central Cambria 6

SIDMAN - Winning pitcher Luke Gallaher walked in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh as host Forest Hills outlasted Central Cambria.

Pat Donoughe had a home run and Jared Shope added three hits for the Rangers (2-1).

Luke Trotz blasted a two-run home run for the Red Devils

(1-3).

Johnstown 8

Bishop McCort 4

John King hit a triple and a single, drove in two runs and scored two as Johnstown doubled up Bishop McCort.

Joey Koshal had two doubles, drove in three runs and scored one for the Trojans, who also got a triple and an RBI from Josh Barto.

Matt McMillen and Jesse Cooper each hit a double and a single for Bishop McCort. McMillen scored two runs while Cooper scored one and drove in two.

Meyersdale 12

Conemaugh Valley 5

Winning pitcher Justin Donaldson struck out 13 and teammate Chris Shrock had four hits as visiting Meyersdale (6-1) belted Conemaugh Valley (3-3).

C. Township 15 Shanksville 2

SHANKSVILLE - Dylan Boyer went 4-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs to lead Conemaugh Township in a five-inning win.

Mike Lysic, Dan Blank and Jordan Shroyer had two hits each for the Indians. Lysic drove in three runs.

Ben Duppstadt and Dylan Everett had Shanksville’s hits.

Shade 11, Windber 8

WINDBER - Tyler Smith blasted a solo home run and Ryan Medva earned the win on the mound as visiting Shade downed Windber for its first win.

Dan Berkey hit a two-run homer for the Ramblers.

United 10

Penns Manor 5

ARMAGH - Jon Hess had two hits and drove in three runs as United doubled up Penns Manor.

Chase Wallace, Adam Magalich and Patrick Fuller had two hits each for the Lions (4-1).

Bishop Carroll 6

Penn Cambria 1

REVLOC - Ryan Woo hit a triple and winning pitcher Drew McCabe added two singles as Bishop Carroll remained unbeaten with a win over Penn Cambria.

Justin Myers had two singles for the Panthers.

Homer-Center 9

Northern Cambria 8

NORTHERN CAMBRIA  – Evan Bencic went 2-for-4, and Stephen Nymick singled and scored two runs as visiting Homer-Center beat Northern Cambria.

Andy Hancharik went 2-for-3 with two doubles, and Joe Yuhas ripped a solo homer for the Colts. Joel Polites went 2-for-4.

Marion Center 12 Laurel Valley 1

NEW FLORENCE - Nick LaMantia was 2-for-3 and drove in three runs as Marion Center downed host Laurel Valley in five innings.

Anthony Tutino tripled and scored the Rams run.
