SUSKO – George E., 85, Adams Township, died Nov. 2, 2012, at Windber Hospice. Born Dec. 14, 1926, in Dunlo, son of the late John and Anna (Frieko) Susko. George was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Preceded in death by brothers, John, Michael and Joseph, and sisters, Ann, Helen, Mary, Agnes, Sister Mary Bernice of the Sisters of Notre Dame, Dorothy and Evelyn. Survived by wife of 62 years, former Sylvia C. Wilk; sons, George J., and wife, Suni (Clites) Susko, and Michael J., and wife, Jeanne (Delich) Susko; grandchildren, Mark, and wife, Alison (Haig), and Allyn and Amanda; and numerous other family and friends. George owned and operated Lanfair Grocery, was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army in the 340th Engineering Construction Battalion, serving in the Asiatic and Pacific Theater Operations; was a lifetime member of the Dunlo American Legion Post 573, where he served as the commander and financial officer; and was a lifetime member of the Dunlo and Beaverdale Sportsman’s Associations. He received specialized training from the Virginia Military Institute. George enjoyed gardening, golf and crossword puzzles and loved thoroughbred racing. At the request of the deceased, there will be no viewing. Friends are invited to a funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Michael Catholic Church, St. Michael, Father Charles Bodziak, officiating. Inurnment will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Graveside military rites will be performed by Menoher Post 155 Ritual Team. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Windber Hospice, 600 Somerset Ave., Windber, Pa. 15963 or Operation Smile, 6435 Tidewater Drive, Norfolk, Va. 23509.
