Clyde Edwin Keiper

COLUMBUS, OHIO — KEIPER – Clyde Edwin, 92, died July 7, 2012, in Columbus, Ohio. Born Nov. 29, 1919, in Johnstown, to R.W. and Daisy Keiper. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wives, Kay, Ethel and Melva; and brothers, Glenn (Ethel) and Blaine (Elsie). Survived by sister, June Berkebile Jackson; son, Barry; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. During World War II, Clyde was a gun loader in the 634 Tank Destroyer Battalion attached to the First Infantry Division. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge. At the conclusion of the war, he played baseball for The Big Red One Division Baseball team. They traveled all over Europe playing other Army Division teams. He was a home delivery milkman for several Johnstown dairies for 28 years. Several years before his retirement, he delivered prescription drugs to nursing homes. He was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates fan, loved spending time with his family, fishing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and playing pool and cards with his buddies at the Johnstown Senior Center. Lifetime member of Walnut Grove Church of the Brethren, Bedford Street, where a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13. Following a family meal, interment will be held at 1:30 p.m. at Grandview Cemetery.
