PORTAGE — GORDON– Betty L., 89, Portage, entered into new life Oct. 25, 2012, at Rebekah Manor. Born Aug. 29, 1923, in Portage, the daughter of Wilfred “Tom” and Vera (Clarkson) Bloom. Preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Bernard. Survived by her loving husband, Thomas. Betty and Tom would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary Nov. 14. Also surviving are her children, Janet, wife of John “Ben” Adams, Johnstown, and Thomas “Tim,” and his wife, Joyce, Myersdale; grandchildren, Robert (Sallie) Adams, Robyn Adams, Rebecca (John) Jordan, Ryan (Carol) Adams and Matthew Gordon; great-grand-children, Shannon, R.J. and Jacob Adams and Johnny, Madison and Sarah Jordon; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Milfred (Margaret) Gordon and Donna Burket, both of Portage, and Ruth Bloom, Warren, Pa. Betty was a lifelong volunteer for the community of Portage. She co-founded the “Well Baby Clinic” and served as an officer and member of the Portage Women’s Club and PTA as well as the historical society. She also served on the election board for many years. In her church, she was president and an active member of the UM Women’s group and a Sunday school and Bible school teacher. As a minister’s wife, she was faithful in her support of Tom and the church. Always a help to Tom by typing his sermons and the bulletins for the churches they served in Wilmore, Lilly, Cresson and LaJose. She loved to bowl and served as secretary for the “Coffee Time” League in Portage for more than 25 years. Betty loved her husband, her family, and her God. She was generous over the years with her time and gifts. “Many women are good wives, but you are the best of them all.” Proverbs 31:29. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Jean H. Kinley Funeral Home, Portage. Funeral service at 11 a.m. Monday at Trinity United Methodist Church, the Rev. Michael Long officiating. Interment, Forest Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, family asks contributions be made to Trinity United Methoidist Church.
