NORTHERN CAMBRIA — MAZURAK – Michael Sr., 86, Northern Cambria, passed away March 13, 2013, surrounded by his loving family at Miner’s Medical Center, Hastings. Born Nov. 18, 1926, in Bakerton, son of Anthoney and Mary (Serbinsky) Mazurak. He married Norma (Byrnes) Oct. 25, 1952, at St. John’s Byzantine Catholic Church, Barnesboro, where they remained lifelong members. His death ends a marriage of 60 years. Preceded in death by parents; brother, Peter; sister, Catherine Kochinsky; sisters-in-law, Mary Ida Bohm and Ann Mazurak; brothers-in-law, Walter Kochinsky, Nicholas Babyak, Floyd Bohm, Robert Homer and Gene Byers; niece, Shirley (Kochinsky) Becker; and nephew, Robert Kochinsky. His wedding prayer was fulfilled “May you live to see your children’s children.” He is survived by his loving wife, Norma; children, Denise (Gary) Ceschini, Patton; Michael Jr. (Loraine) Mazurak, Altoona; John Mazurak, Northern Cambria; Carolyn (Lou) Christoff, Northern Cambria; Paul (Cindy) Mazurak, Hastings; and Susan (Vince) Rietscha, Nicktown; grandchildren, Angel Murdock, Lacey Ceschini, Melanie Bapple, Molly Wingert, Michael Mazurak III, Lauren Mazurak, Charity Blaine, Emily Christoff, Cindy Holliday, Deanna, Krista and Shannon Mazurak, Vincent Rietscha III, Brian and Andy Rietscha and Lynette Schilling; and great-grandchildren, Dylan, Madeline, Anna, Matthew, Joshua, August, Jack, Nolan, Daily, Avery, Michael IV and Maxx. Brother of Metro (Shirley) Mazurak, Bakerton, and Ann Babyak, Carrolltown. Also survived by sisters-in-law, Florence Homer, DuBois; Leona Byers, Pennsylvania Furnace; and Carolyn (Richard) Ellis, Pittsburgh, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was devoted to his Lord and his family, which he knew to be his greatest blessings. He raised his family by the example he set - honest and hard working. U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. and Japan. Charter member of Bakerton VFW Post 8897 and later a member of Barnesboro VFW Post 343. Retired miner from Sterling 1 and Bethlehem 33 mines and member of UMWA. Mike loved his home and spent most of his time working in his yard and gardens and resting in his gazebo, where he loved to have family gatherings and visit with friends. He was well-known for the flowers he grew throughout his yard that he planted from seeds. He enjoyed watching Penn State and Pittsburgh Steelers football games and Sunday drives. Michael also loved his childhood church, SS. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Bakerton, where he loved to attend holiday Masses. He was honored to have his health prayed for and blessed by Father Paul Bigelow, pastor of SS. Peter & Paul. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Moriconi Funeral Home Inc., Northern Cambria. Panachida will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by Funeral Liturgy at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John Byzantine Catholic Church, Father Oliver Hebert, TOR, officiating. Committal, St. John Byzantine Cemetery. Vechnaya Pamyat! Memory Eternal! Military honors by local veterans organizations.
