JOHNSTOWN — ZELEK – Blaine G., 91, Johnstown, died Sept. 21, 2012, at home. Born Sept. 5, 1921, in Franklin, son of the late Michael P. and Angeline (Golash) Zelek. Preceded in death by brothers, Stanley, Walter, Joseph, Michael and Robert, and sisters, Mary Zelek and Sophie Mihelic. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Survived by beloved wife of 60 years, Joan E. (Begalke) Zelek; daughter, Tanya M. Shaffer, married to Robert A., Johnstown; grandchildren, Chase R. Shaffer, and wife, Ashton L., and Nicholas B. Shaffer; and great-granddaughter, Chloe B. Shaffer.  Blaine was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and graduated with his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Pittsburgh.  He was a retired elementary school principal at the Conemaugh Valley School District. Member of Conemaugh PNA and Verona Eagles, he enjoyed pitching horseshoes and loved reading, teaching and spending time with his family. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hindman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc., 1521 Frankstown Road, where funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, the Rev. Eleanor Abarno, officiating. Entombment, Forest Lawn Mausoleum, with military rites by VFW Menoher Post 155.  Those who wish may make memorial donations to Hartland Hospice Memorial Fund, 333 N. Summit St., P.O. Box 10086 Toledo, Ohio 43699-0086.
