AKRON, OHIO — PERRY – Ronald E., 81, Akron, Ohio, passed away peacefully Monday, Sept. 17, 2012. Ron was born to the late Nicholas and Mildred Perry on Sept. 14, 1931, in Portage. During his working career, Ron was employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad and D&K Distributing Co. He proudly served his country in the Korean War. Ron also was a life member of VFW Post 3383 and a 60-year member of the American Legion Post 174, Gallitzin. Ron liked to reminisce of the days he played football and basketball at Gallitzin High School. He was an avid golfer, looking forward to Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on the course at Spring Hill Golf Club with his buddies. He also enjoyed hunting with his son. His family was his pride and joy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Chester; sisters, Judith, Estelle, Blanche and Lucetta Talarigo; and granddaughter, Andrea Perry. Ron is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 59 years, Janet; brothers, Dennis (Nidia), Fajardo, Puerto Rico, and Arnold Perry, Gallitzin; daughters, Judy (Ken) Adam, Akron, and Barbara Ott, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; son, Ronald Perry Jr., Tallmadge, Ohio; grandchildren, Steve “Pudge” (Erin) Kelly, Dr. Tiffany (Tom) Zellman, Shannon Perry, Shawn and Lindsay Adam; and great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Andrew Zellman and Bryson Kelly. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012, at Visitation of Mary (formerly Annunciation), 87 Broad St., Akron, Ohio 44305. Burial in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery will immediately follow. Family will receive friends at Hummel Funeral Home, 500 E. Exchange St., Akron, Ohio 44304, from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 24, 2012. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Annunciation Soup Kitchen.
