EBENSBURG — ECKENRODE – Joyce Ann, 80, Ebensburg, passed away peacefully Jan. 17, 2013, at home surrounded by her loving family. Born April 8, 1932, in Richmond, Va., daughter of Ben and Ruth (Wilson) Missimer. Preceded in death by parents and brother, Frank Missimer. Survived by loving husband of 60 years, William R. Eckenrode, whom she married Feb. 26, 1952. They were blessed with seven children who were the light of her life, Susan (Eugene) Stoltz, Hollidaysburg; Michael (Patty Angelo) Eckenrode, Ebensburg R.D.; Deborah (Michael) Brawley, Ebensburg R.D.; Lynda (Roy) Holtz, Patton R.D.; Mark (Julie Rizzo) Eckenrode, Ebensburg R.D.; William J. (Jill Davis) Eckenrode, Heilwood; and Barbara (Darren) McLaurin, Ebensburg R.D. Joyce was lovingly known as Gram to 20 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. In addition to raising their children, Joyce and Bill worked together 40 years milking cows on their Bill-Joy Farm. She was a devoted and ever-supportive wife, mother and grandmother who considered her family her greatest accomplishment and time spent with them was her favorite past-time. She shared her quick wit and heartfelt stories often and they will be sadly missed but fondly remembered. She loved playing pranks, giving gag gifts and laughing as often as she could. She always put the needs of others before her own and was a firm believer that the most important thing in life was the love and strength of family and faith. Her caring and positive spirit remained strong and evident to the very end. Member of St. Benedict Catholic Church, Carrolltown. She volunteered for many years with St. Vincent de Paul Society. Friends will be received from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Moriconi Funeral Home Inc., Northern Cambria, and from noon until time of funeral Mass at 1 p.m. Monday at St. Benedict Church, Boniface Wimmer Room, Father Jude Brady, OSB, officiating. Interment, St. Benedict Cemetery. Joyce often reminded her family and friends, “Love is our greatest gift and will live forever.” Love will be her legacy. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joyce’s memory to St. Benedict Church building fund or St. Vincent de Paul Society, Carrolltown.
