Patrick D. Malloy

ASHVILLE — MALLOY – Patrick D., 85, Ashville, passed away Jan. 27, 2013, at home. Born Feb. 4, 1927, in Houtzdale, son of the late Patrick F. and Ethel (Martin) Malloy. Preceded in death by wife, the former Natalie Benzie, whom he married July 2, 1955, in Ashville. She passed away Aug. 10, 1995. Also preceded in death by brothers, Jack and Merle; and sister, Phyllis Mohler. Survived by children, Pat (Mary Billy), Gallitzin R.D.; Carol McConnell (Pete), Dysart R.D.; Cindy Bernazzoli (Ronald “Smoke”), Gallitzin R.D.; and Don (Colleen Mandichak), Gallitzin R.D.; grandchildren, Joey (Becky), Paul, and Steve Malloy (Anna), Neil McConnell (Courtney), Jamie Pyo (Matthew), Michael Bernazzoli (Jenna), Melanie Thomas (Garett), Lindsay and Mark Malloy (Marlena); great-grandsons, Hunter, Maverick and Parker; sisters, Margaret E. Sullivan, Wake Forest, N.C.; and Shirley Garay, Bakerton; and sisters-in-law, Helen (Benzie) McNulty, St. Augustine; and Rose (Tutko) Benzie, Gallitzin. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. World War ll Army veteran, where he served with the military police and was awarded the Army of Occupation Medal European and the African–Middle Eastern Campaign Medal. Pat was an avid Penn State and Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He enjoyed watching westerns on television, working in his yard, hunting and fishing. He worked for more than 40 years as a coal miner at Beth Energy Mine 32 and retired in 1986. Member of UMWA and Local 850, Ebensburg. Charter member of St. Benedict VFW Post 7783. Member of Ashville VFW Post 4315. Former member of St. Thomas Catholic Church, Ashville. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Gibbons Funeral Home, Ashville, the Rev. Linda Lacovic, officiating. Committal, St. Thomas Cemetery, Ashville. Military rites in charge of Ashville VFW and other local military organizations. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Home Nursing Agency Hospice, 118 Ebony Road, Ebensburg, Pa. 15931, or Ashville Volunteer Fire Company in Pat’s memory. It was because of the generous gift of blood donors that kept Pat living for more than three years. Truly, thank you for the gift of life.
