SOUTHMONT — FILO – John, 89, Southmont, passed away Jan. 27, 2013, at Osceola Regional Medical Center, Kissimmee, Fla. Born Feb. 10, 1923, in Johnstown, son of Sam and Julianna (Macejko) Chupko. Upon the untimely death of his parents, he was raised by John and Mary Filo. Preceded in death by parents; brothers, Joseph, husband of Elizabeth (Zakucia); Michael; George; and Simon Demo, twin brother; sisters, Mary, wife of John Hawralla; and Mary (Filo), wife of Joseph Kanuch; sister-in-law, Angie, wife of Homer Horner; and nephew, Gregory Horner. Survived by wife of 60 years, Florence (Chiodo); children, Peter, Orlando, Fla.; and Valerie, wife of Paul Lorditch, Bowie, Md.; grandchildren, 1st Lt. Paul John Lorditch, United States Marine Corps; Stephen Lorditch; Jessica Jennings, wife of Capt. Timothy Jennings, United States Army; Juliann; Maria; Alexandra; and John; great-grandson, Timmy Jennings; and a great-granddaughter to be born in March. Also survived by sisters-in-law, Agnes (Eckstine) Demo; and Joan, and husband, Ken Yingling; and brother-in-law, Peter Chiodo, and wife, Linda. Also survived by many loving nephews and nieces. World War II Army veteran, having served in the China/Burma/India Theater of War, 1942 to 1945, and recipient of two Bronze Stars, a Victory medal, and Good Conduct medal. Formerly employed by Bethlehem Steel Corp. and owner of Home Appliances. Active member of St. Clare of Assisi Catholic Church (formerly St. Anthony) and Third Degree Knights of Columbus, Chapter 9136. Devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Friends received from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Frank Duca Funeral Home, Westmont Chapel, 1622 Menoher Blvd., Johnstown, Pa. 15905. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Clare of Assisi Church, Father Matthew Misurda. Interment, St. Anthony Cemetery, Geistown.
