DUNCANSVILLE — CAYUELA – Matthew E., 85, Duncansville, formerly of Tioga Street, Westmont, died peacefully in his sleep, Jan. 29, 2013. Born April 20, 1927, in Johnstown, son of the late Matthew and Mary Cayuela. Survived by son, Matthew G. Cayuela, Indian Lake; daughter, Deborah Lamb, Tampa; and granddaughters, Lauren Cayuela, Philadelphia; Ali Cayuela, Columbus, Ohio; and Amy Hughes and Lori Hill, both of Johnstown. Also survived by sisters, Eleanor “Nona” Cayuela, Duncansville; Ramona J. Petak, married to William, Palos Verdes, Calif.; and Sara M. Coon, Altoona; and numerous nephews and nieces. Matthew was a World War II Navy veteran, having served in the Pacific Theater aboard several ships, including the USS Ascella and USS Delta. He worked as a draftsman at the general office of Bethlehem Steel, Johnstown, for 15 years then as a consultant and engineer for H.F. Lenz until his retirement. Also a member of First Presbyterian Church since 1936 and spent many years as a deacon. Matthew was an avid Steelers fan, having been a season ticket holder since the early 1950s. He enjoyed spending weekends and vacations relaxing at Indian Lake; taking walks in lower Westmont, where he lived for many years; and also meeting with his friends at the local McDonald’s every morning. Matthew suffered from Alzheimer’s Disease, the last decade of his life, so the family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation. Friends will be received from 10 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11 a.m. Saturday at Picking-Treece-Bennett Mortuary Inc., 921 Menoher Blvd., the Rev. Stephen G. Durr, officiating.
