JOHNSTOWN — BRENDLE – Devon Lew Sr. “Smokey,” Richland, passed away Feb. 11, 2013, at Memorial Medical Center. Born June 2, 1934, in Johnstown, son of the late Frank and Lorena Brendle. Survived by loving wife of 55 years, the former Shirley Zimmerman. He was a loving father to son, Devon L. Brendle Jr., married to the former Pamela Cook, Elton; and daughter, Dr. Melissa Murray, married to Terrence P. Murray IV, Jenners. Beloved grandfather to Amanda Brendle Baran, married to Chris, West Virginia; and cherished great-grandfather to Ian Baran. Also survived by brother, Dorsey “Pete,” and sister-in-law, Catherine Brendle, Richland; special niece, Donna Schroding Conard, and nephew, Dennis Schroding. Preceded in death by sister, Regina Schroding. A graduate of Richland High School. Formerly employed at Sunshine Biscuit Corp. and former owner of Florie Diebold Food Brokerage Co. Member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church. Navy veteran and member of Korean War Veteran’s Post 1 and Richland American Legion. Devon loved his alma mater, Richland High School, and Richland Ram’s football team. He was a true American patriot who loved his country. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be greatly missed. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Henderson Funeral Home, East Hills, 2503 Bedford St., and from 10 a.m. until the hour of service at 11 a.m. Friday at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, Pastor Custead, officiating. Entombment, Richland Mausoleum. Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by members of Korean Veterans Honor Guard and Charles Menoher Post 155 VFW.
