PARKHILL — KARKOSKY – Florence M., 83, Parkhill, died Nov. 20, 2012, at Memorial Medical Center. Born March 10, 1929, in Conemaugh, daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Matlag) Stanislawczyk. Preceded in death by husband, John S. Karkosky; brothers, Stephen and Michael Jr.; and sisters, Mary Rozum, Betty Wasky, Edna Krish and Leona Stanislawczyk. Survived by children, Deborah Covolus, and husband, William, New Hope; Christine Papuga, and husband, Francis, Conemaugh; and Carleen Finley, and husband, George, Doylestown; grandchildren, Jaclyn (Papuga) Krawczyk, and husband, Andrew, Johnstown; Nicholas Covolus, Philadelphia; Kathryn Covolus, New Hope; and Lauren Finley, Doylestown; great-grandson, Alexander Krawczyk; sister, Helen Pingatore, Conemaugh; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Member of Church of the Transfiguration, formerly Assumption of the BVM, where she volunteered with preparing pierogies. Life member of PNA Group 1569. She was an avid Penn State and Steelers fan, and enjoyed farming, gardening and baking bread and nut rolls. She was a 1947 graduate of Conemaugh High School. Florence, a pillar of strength and independence, was a woman who expressed compassion and generosity to everyone she knew. She loved her family unconditionally. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Henderson-Makuchan Funeral Home, 434 First St., Conemaugh, where vigil for the deceased will be held. Funeral Mass will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Church of the Transfiguration, the Rev. Robert C. Hall, celebrant. Interment, Assumption Cemetery. Donations may be made in the name of Florence to Cancer Care Co-payment Assistance Foundation, 275 Seventh Ave., New York, N.Y. 10001.
