WESTMONT BOROUGH — VOYTEK – Bernard J. “Bernie,” 87, Westmont Borough, died peacefully Nov. 25, 2012, at Conemaugh Hospital. Born July 13, 1925, in Johnstown, son of John and Anna (Hovanec) Voytek. Preceded in death by parents; brother, Leonard Voytek Sr.; and sister, Martha Mizak. Survived by devoted and loving wife of 65 years, Theresa (Kiraly) Voytek, Westmont, and daughter, Deborah Riek, and her husband, Ronald, Annapolis, Md. Also survived by granddaughter, Shannon Davis, and her husband, Lt. Cmdr. Timothy Davis, and great-granddaughters, Madalynn and Katelynn Davis, San Diego, Calif. Brother of Mildred Kirchner, Niles, Ohio, and Louise Vargo, Florida, and numerous nieces and nephews. Bernie was a World War II veteran, serving with the U.S. Navy as a petty officer radioman third class aboard the USS Piedmont. He served in the South Pacific, having received the Good Conduct, Victory, Asiatic-Pacific Theater, American Campaign, Philippine Liberation and Japanese Occupation medals that recognized and honored him for his service to his country. Retired with 34 years of service from Beth Energy Corp. He enjoyed gardening, reading and tinkering. He was known for his positive attitude and his love for his family. A past member of St. Therese Holy Name Society and Catholic Church. A faithful member of Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church, where funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, the Very Rev. Mark S. Begly, pastor. Committal, Grandview Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted by the VFW Post 155 Ritual Team. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Francis G. Ozog Funeral Home Inc., Broad Street, where vigil for the deceased will be held Tuesday. Condolences may be sent at ozogfh.com. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Mother of Sorrow Catholic Church in memory of Bernie Voytek.
