HASTINGS — SMITH – William H. Sr. “Bill,” 86, Hastings, died Dec. 6, 2012, at Altoona Regional Hospital. Born Nov. 15, 1926, in St. Boniface, son of the late John H. and Isabel (McClellan) Smith. Preceded in death by five sisters, Isabel, Suzanne, Della, Laverne and Beatrice, and two brothers, John and Ivan. Survived by wife of 62 years, the former Rita M. Dumm, Hastings; children, Robert Allen Smith, and wife, Sandy J., Grove City; Karen A., married to James Adamik, Indio, Calif.; Linda S. Smith, Atlanta, Ga.; Bryan D. Smith, Hastings; and William H. Smith Jr., Altoona; grandchildren, Trevor Allen Smith, Sarah Elizabeth Smith, Colin John Adamik and Katherine Ann Adamik; sister, Barb, married to Tom Donahue, Oakland, Calif.; and brother, Thomas Smith, and wife, Dorothy, Emeigh, Pa. Bill was a mechanic for Bethlehem Steel Corp., a U.S. Navy veteran serving during the Pacific Theater and a member of Hastings VFW. He loved hunting, fishing, yard work, woodworking and the outdoors. He also loved music, playing the guitar and yodeling. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Easly-Hindman Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 333 Beaver St., Hastings, where funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Father Thaddeus Rettger, OSB, officiating. Interment will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be performed by Hastings VFW. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the palliative care unit at Altoona Regional Hospital or Hastings VFW.
