Charles Chesnutwood

SALIX — CHESNUTWOOD – Charles “Lee,” 74, Salix, went home to be with the Lord Oct. 22, 2012, after a courageous battle with cancer.  He was born Feb. 12, 1938, in Johnstown, and was the son of the late Paul and Ivy (Wolf) Chesnutwood.  Survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Esther (Baumgardner) Chesnutwood, Salix; children, Kerry Sue, wife of Eric Petry, Salix; Linda, wife of Dr. Ernest Mantini, Richland; and Kevin, married to Shawn Lear, Hagerstown, Md.;  grandchildren, Emily and Matthew Mantini and Alexei and Ayden Chesnutwood; brothers, James, married to Rosalie, and Kenneth, married to Sharon; in-laws, Irene and Den Seese, Bob and Marlene Baumgardner, Ray and Joyce Baumgardner, Betty and Bob Miller, Marlin and Bernadette Baumgardner and Ron and Sue Baumgardner; and numerous nieces and nephews and grandnieces and nephews. He was affectionately known as “Uncle Lee” by many of their “baby sitter” children. He was a loving husband and father.  He lived his life serving the Lord and was a faithful member of Salix Bethel United Methodist Church, where he joyfully served in many capacities. He has a special love for missions and participated in many mission trips and worked on local mission projects. He was a retired salesman from Valley Tire, Windber.  He served with the Pennsylvania National Guard 876th Engineering Battalion, Johnstown. He served his community as a Little League coach and as a constable for the election board. He was a loyal “Ranger” fan and enjoyed sports of all kinds. He was an antique tractor enthusiast and loved to golf with his brothers. He touched the lives of so many people and he will be greatly missed. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home Inc., South Fork. Viewing at Salix Bethel United Methodist Church from 10 a.m. until celebration of life service at 11 a.m.  Thursday, Pastor Don Poole. Interment, Forest Lawn Cemetery, Johnstown.  In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Bethel United Methodist Church, Mission Trip Fund, P.O.
