CARLISLE — McGREEHAN – William F. Sr., 95, Carlisle, formerly of Sidman and Geistown, died Aug. 3, 2012, at Chapel Pointe, Carlisle. Born Nov. 14, 1916, in Johnstown, son of John and Mary Bridgette (Comerford) McGreehan. Preceded in death by parents; wife, Letah Perle (Stroh), who died May 9, 1975; son, Robert; daughter, Rita; brother, James; and sister, Patricia Gorman. Survived by children, John A., Ellijay, Ga.; William F. Jr., and wife, Deborah, Hamilton, Ohio; Ruth M., wife of Armand Apa, Lewisberry; and Thomas M., Bozeman, Mont.; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Kathleen Rafferty, Willowbrook, Ill.; and numerous nieces and nephews. William was an accomplished musician, having played the piano, organ, clarinet, guitar and harmonica. He also sang in the church choir and with the East Hills Senior Center Chorus. He played clarinet in the 13th Antiaircraft Training Battalion Band at Fort Eustis, Va., and was an Army veteran of World War II. William worked as a coal miner, followed by mine foreman, and then retiring as a federal mine inspector. During his retirement, he drove school bus in the Forest Hills School District. As a master at “lifelong learning,” he continued taking courses at UPJ into his early 80s. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11 a.m. Friday at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home Inc., South Fork, by Father Charles F. Bodziak.
