JOHNSTOWN — MATULA – Diana L., Johnstown, passed away July 27, 2010, at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Born Aug. 3, 1960, in Johnstown, daughter of Ernest and Dorothy Matula. Survived by sons, two wonderful young men, whom Diana raised as a single mother, Jobe, married to Kenya, and Joshua Matula. Diana had the privilege and honor to be involved with her wonderful grandsons, Mykail, Nathaniel, Isaiah and Little Jobe. The memories and pictures of many camping trips and adventures will be helpful for them to know that Grandma Diana will always be with them. She was a sibling to Ernest, Dennis, Paul, Marcella, Jeffrey and their respected spouses; niece, Tina (Matula) Enderline; and great-niece, Sarah, held a special place in her heart. She also leaves behind Skipper the dog, a loyal friend, protector and buddy. Diana made a career in the U.S. Army from 1978 until 1990, when she became disabled, being exposed to something which made her sick for the rest of her life. While at home, she attended Cambria County Community College, earning an A.A.S. in logistics; Geneva Christian College, earning a B.S. in human resources; and the University of Cincinnati, Ohio, earning her Master of Science in criminal justice. Diana has experienced many tragedies over her life. Alcohol and people choosing to drink and drive have killed and permanently injured her family members. She also experienced racial hatred because of her sons being biracial and regardless, she never let it get her down. Her love for her sons was what kept her going. At Diana’s request there will be no public viewing or visitation and services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be made to the Diana’s family. Arrangements are entrusted to Picking-Treece-Bennett Mortuary Inc., West Hills.
