Donald William Lape

JOHNSTOWN — LAPE – Donald William, 86, Johnstown, died Aug. 7, 2011, at Memorial Medical Center. Born Oct. 27, 1924, in Somerset County, son of the late David J. and Pearle (Smucker) Lape. Survived by wife, Dorene (Markley) Lape; daughters, Susan Lape, fiancee of Craig Robertson; and Candace, wife of Dominic Pugliese; grandchildren, Kristin and Michael Pugliese; and brother, Robert E., Davidsville. He graduated from Boswell High School in 1942 after which he joined the Navy, having served as a yeoman on a Mine Sweeper in World War II. He was employed for 25 years at Johnstown Sanitary Dairy, managed Mark Religious Book Store for seven years and retired from Johnstown Bank and Trust in 1987. He was an avid Pirates, Steelers and Penn State fan and enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. Member of Walnut Grove Church of the Brethren, where he served as head usher, deacon and church treasurer for 36 years. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Geisel Funeral Home, Dale. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Walnut Grove Church of the Brethren, the Rev. Ronald Barto. Interment, Berkey Church of the Brethren Cemetery.
