RICHLAND — METZGER – Mrs. Doris E., 89, Richland, formerly of Windber, passed away Dec. 31, 2012, at Arbutus Park Manor, Richland. Born Jan. 25, 1923, in Windber, daughter of Alonza and Ida (Lehman) Shaffer. Preceded in death by parents; first husband, Richard L. Berkey; sister, Alpha Weaver; and brothers, Ray, Boyd and Clair; also son-in-law, Ronald Callahan. Survived by loving husband of 25 years, Duane Metzger; son, Larry Berkey, married to the former Veronica Bulvin; daughter, Nancy (Berkey) Callahan; grandchildren, Randy, and wife, Tracey; Renee, and husband, Kevin; Cristy, and husband, Todd; Eron, and wife, Christa; and Chad, and wife, Julie; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Ellen Adkins and Betty Miller; and stepdaughters, Sharon McClinsey, Judy Brett and Linda Smeed, and their families. Doris retired from MetLife Insurance Co., Johnstown, and was a former employee of Tops Diners. She loved to sing and play her guitar and was an avid square dancer. Lifetime member of Windber Church of the Brethren. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the loving care provided to Doris by the wonderful caring staff at Arbutus Crossroads. Family will receive friends from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Meek & Dalla Valle Funeral Home Inc., Windber, where funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, the Rev. Royden Airesman, officiating.
