FREDERICK, MD. — BARANIK – Ted, 82, Frederick, Md., passed away Feb. 7, 2013, at his home. He was the husband of Mary Alice Baranik. Born Oct. 4, 1930, in Windber, son of the late Andrew and Mary Pochvatila Baranik. Ted was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Korean War. He attended St. Francis University, where he received his bachelor’s degree in business, and the University of Pittsburgh, where he received his master’s degree in health administration. Ted worked as a hospital administrator for 30 years and then was county commissioner for 12 years for Cambria County. Member of St. Timothy Catholic Church, Walkersville, Md. Survived by children, David Baranik, and wife, Mary, Wheeling, W.Va.; Dennis Baranik, and wife, Karen, Plymouth, Mich.; Diane Hemmersbaugh, and husband, Paul, Potomac, Md.; Donna Yocum, and husband, Stephen, Urbana, Md.; and Dureen Schliffka, and husband, Richard, Olney, Md.; and grandchildren, Nara, Lexi, Mela, Ryan, Chad, Sean, Lindsey, James, Grace, Abby, Hannah, Nathan and Brooke; also brother, Leo Baranik, Jerome. Also survived by his 107-year-old mother-in-law, Lucille Severine, Windber. Preceded in death by six of his siblings. Visitation will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, at Stauffer Funeral Homes PA, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, at St. Timothy Catholic Church, 8651 Biggs Ford Road, Walkersville, Md. 21793, Monsignor Richard Murphy, officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick. Those desiring may make memorial contributions in Ted’s name to American Heart Association at www.heart.org.
