LIGONIER — MYERS – Mildred C. (Reed) , 90, Ligonier, passed away Friday, Feb. 8, 2013. She was born Nov. 6, 1922, in South Fork, daughter of the late John and Dorothy (Walls) Reed. Prior to retirement, she was a school nurse for the Central Cambria School District and an office nurse for Dr. Philip Crooks and Dr. Donald Mitchell for 25 years. Mildred served in the Cadet Nurse Corps during World War II and was stationed at the McGuire Army Hospital, Richmond, Va. She was a 1940 graduate of South Fork High School and a 1945 graduate of Conemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She also was a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1971 with a B.S in education and was a graduate student at Penn State and the University of Pittsburgh. She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Ligonier; Mount Hope United Methodist Church, South Fork; Eastern Star, Fort Ligonier Chapter 349; VFW Auxiliary 734; Memorial Hospital Alumni Association; IUP Alumni Association; Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees; and Penn State Education Association. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Wilson Myers; three brothers, William Reed, and his wife, Dorothy; Russell Reed, and wife, Isabelle; and Paul Reed; and sister, Lola Mae Reed Bray. She will be dearly missed by her family. She was a devoted mother to her son, Gregory Devon Myers, and his wife, Corinne, Ligonier. She was a loving and proud Nana to her three grandchildren, Muriel Corinne “Sissy” Myers, Ligonier; Capt. Robbie Wilson Myers, Fort Drum, N.Y.; and Sara Beth Myers, Ligonier. She also is survived by a sister, Marjorie Elaine Reed Piper, and her husband, the Rev. Raymond, Texas; brother, Denny Vincent Reed, and his wife, Joy Elaine, South Carolina; brother-in-law, the Rev. James F. Bray, West Mifflin; sister-in-law and special friend, Diane Reed-Hayes, and her husband, Bill, Seward; and numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Snyder Funeral Home Inc., 402 E. Church St., Ligonier, where funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday. A private interment will be held for the family at Mount Hope Cemetery, South Fork. The family would like to give a special thanks to Nana’s faithful hairdresser, Luanne Miller, and all the Excela Health nurses and hospice workers.
