FRIEDENS — SHOCKEY– Mark Jay, 56, Friedens, died Feb. 15, 2013, at UPMC Presbyterian. Born June 9, 1956, in Somerset, son of Ada (Miller) Shockey of Friedens and the late Jay E. Shockey. Also survived by his wife of 34 years, the former Jody L. Ickes; sons, Dustin, married to the former Tristan Thomas, Friedens, and Jordan, Winter Garden, Fla.; granddaughter, Aviana Grace Shockey; brother, Blair, married to the former Janet Walker, Friedens; sisters, Susan, married to Lonnie Kensinger, Everett, and Roseann, married to Fay Henry, Manassas, Va.; numerous nieces and nephews; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Squire and Phyllis Ickes, Boswell. A 1974 graduate of Somerset High School. Former truck driver owner-operator for 18 years and employed by Ickes Financial Services, Boswell, as a life insurance agent for Northwestern Mutual Life and a CSA. Member of Friedens Lutheran Church. Mark received 19 years because of a gift of life from a kidney donation. He was a volunteer speaker on behalf of the Center for Organ Recovery and Education. He enjoyed playing poker with his buddies, antique automobiles, and telling stories. Family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at Friedens Lutheran Church, where service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, with viewing one hour prior, the Rev. Edward V. DeVore officiating. Interment, Somerset County Memorial Park. The family requests no fresh flowers due to allergies.
