Raymond R. Arcurio

JOHNSTOWN — ARCURIO – Raymond R. “Archie,” 77, Johnstown, died Saturday, June 23, 2012, at Memorial Medical Center. Born Feb. 3, 1935, in Johnstown, son of George Sr. and Angeline (Pallone) Arcurio. Preceded in death by his parents, and infant son, Rayme. Survived by wife, Marian (Howarth) Arcurio; they celebrated 55 years of marriage on June 7, 2012; children, Elaine, married to Roger Sarlouis; Christine, married to Brad Zepka; Raeleen, married to Hal Rager; Gina, married to Jerry Adams; and Raymond Anthony, and fiancee, Stacey Greenawalt; grandchildren, Joshua and Lindsay (Dachille) Arcurio; Jason Sarlouis, and fiancee, Caitlin Leleck; Tyler Sarlouis; Megan and Matt Rager; and Jeremy Adams; great-granddaughter, Colette; brothers, Frank, married to Pauline (Camut); George Jr. “Junior,” married to Margaret (Dyda); and Robert, married to Wendy (Herron); and several nieces, nephews and cousins. For most of his life he grew up and lived in “Old Conemaugh Borough.” He was employed by the state Department of Transportation as a road foreman, and the City of Johnstown for 36 years, where he retired as the supervisor of Parks and Highways.  Archie was a charter employee of the War Memorial, first working on the ice crew, and retiring with 50 years of service as a ticket taker.  Archie played goalie for one of the first youth hockey teams in Johnstown. Archie was a lifetime member and a trustee for the Union Social Club. He was an umpire with the Dale Little League and coach for his son’s Little League teams and  football coach for St. Anthony’s School. In 2007, our Dad was nominated and awarded the William S. Vincent Award for supporting public education. This honor was given to him before the Penn State and Ohio State game for his outstanding service to the staff and students of the Greater Johnstown School District. Archie loved Johnstown, the Johnstown School District and attending their sporting events, especially his Trojan football team. He was elected for many years as a Greater Johnstown School director, and serving on the board of directors for Cam-Tran, the Redevelopment Authority and the Johnstown Housing Authority. Our Dad was very active with the All American Amateur Baseball Association (AAABA) Tournament, working behind the scenes and selling tickets every year. There are so many people and things that our Dad loved, like the Steelers, Penguins and the Yankees, but nothing meant more to him than his wife, children and grandchildren. His great-granddaughter, Coco, was the joy of his life. He will be greatly missed by all of those who knew and loved him. Archie was a life member at St. Clare of Assisi Church, where funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 27. Friends received from 2 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 26,  at Frank Duca Funeral Home, Westmont Chapel, 1622 Menoher Blvd. Interment, St. Anthony Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to www.ducafuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Trojan College Access Fund, c/o Greater Johnstown High School, 222 Central Ave., Johnstown, Pa. 15902,  in memory of Raymond “Archie” Arcurio.
