Rev. Joyce Elaine Johnson

JOHNSTOWN — JOHNSON – Rev. Joyce Elaine, 71, Johnstown, passed away Dec. 10, 2012, in Maryland. Born Jan. 9, 1941, daughter of the late Rev. Leroy F. and Blanche (Anderson) Johnson. Survived by sons, Daniel, and David, and wife, Brooke (Andrews); grandchildren, Samari and Avery; sisters, Delores Clark and Esther Anderson; uncle, Ernest Anderson; nieces, Sherri Cooper-Smith, Kimberly Surrat and Tracey Batacan; nephew, McGowan Anderson Jr.; a host of family; and many friends. Joyce retired from Greater Johnstown School District with 30 years of service. She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh and master’s degree from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. For many years, she served as a musician with many local churches, including Bethel AME, Pleasant Hill and Mount Sinai Baptist churches and as associate pastor with Pleasant Hill Baptist. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Moskal Funeral Home, West End. Homegoing service will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 205 Peelor St., Prospect. Committal, Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Joyce Johnson Memorial Scholarship. Condolences may be sent via email at moskal-reidfh.com.
