RICHLAND TOWNSHIP — GERTZ – Ethel E., 82, Richland Township, went to be with the Lord Nov. 15, 2012, at Memorial Medical Center. Born Aug. 16, 1930, in Johnstown, daughter of the late Alex and Anna (Kovalsky) Stanish. Survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Ernest E. Gertz; brother, Donald (Peggy) Stanish, Florida; niece, Stacey Stanish (Jason) Butler; and nephew, Steven (Lisa) Stanish. Also survived by Bubba’s little angels, Ava and Drew; numerous nieces and nephews; and many close friends. Member of St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church, Windber. She was well-known for her decorating skills. Ethel and Ernie were co-owners of Young American Furniture for 30 years. Ethel was an honorary life member of Richland Fire Company, where she volunteered much time decorating the banquet room for fundraising activities as a member of the East Hills Charities Committee for more than 25 years. She was always willing to help others. Ethel was known for her classy dress, high energy and enjoying many area restaurants with her friends. Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland, where memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church, Power Street, Johnstown, Monsignor Raymond Balta, officiating. Committal, Grandview Cemetery Mausoleum. The family suggests contributions be directed to St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church, 803 Somerset Ave., Windber, Pa. 15963, or Richland Fire Company, 1321 Scalp Ave., Johnstown, Pa. 15904, in memory of Ethel.
