Adrian E. Kibler Sr.

HASTINGS — KIBLER – Adrian E. Sr., 92, Hastings, died Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012, at Golden Living HAIDA. Born March 22, 1920, in St. Boniface, son of the late Thaddeus and Barbara (Schrift). Also preceded in death by wife, Ethel R. (Angert) Kibler; brothers, Robert, Hilary, Wilfred and Richard Kibler; and sisters, Agatha Kibler, Margaret Drass, Leona Yahner and Pauline Wess. Survived by children, Adrian Jr. (Barbara) Kibler, Chesapeake, Va.; Donna (Rusty) Murphy, Youngsville; William Kibler, Hastings; Mary Anne (Jim) Rickabaugh, Winchester, Va.; and Thaddeus (Mary Kay) Kibler, Inwood, W.Va.; grandchildren, Christine, Jennifer, Mark, Billy, Alex, Nicole, Travis Allen, Eugene, Theresa, Travis Paul, Dwaine, Evan and Amber; and 12 great-grandchildren. Mr. Kibler served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served two years in the European Theater as an artillery air and ground Forward Observer in the 991st  Field Artillery Battalion. Adrian’s war photos, several from the air, and other 991st records can be viewed on the 3rd Armored Division website at www.3ad.com/history/wwll/feature.pages/991st. Member of St. Bernard Catholic Church, Hastings VFW Post 1586, Carrolltown American Legion Post 506, Knights of Columbus, Holy Name Society, Fire Club and Moose Lodge. In 1956, Adrian was appointed Postmaster in Hastings by President Dwight D. Eisenhower, where he served until retirement in 1985. Prior to that, he had worked as a heavy equipment operator at various surface mining operations. Friends will be received from   2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Easly-Hindman Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., Hastings. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Bernard Catholic Church, Hastings. Interment, St. Boniface Cemetery. Military rites by Hastings VFW.
