Peter M. Mazzarese

NEW JERSEY — MAZZARESE – Peter M., 92, died peacefully Nov. 19, 2012, in New Jersey. Pete was the oldest of seven children, born Oct. 2, 1920, in Johnstown, to the late Peter and Mae (Epifania) Mazzarese. Pete met the love of his life during the war years in New York City and became the beloved husband of the late Frances V. Mazzarese (Karp). Their marriage ended much too soon when Frances passed away in 1979. Pete was a loving father of five daughters who will miss him dearly and keep his memory alive. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II and was so proud of his service that he spoke of it often and wrote a history of his contributions to the war effort for his children to cherish. He wore a World War II veteran baseball cap with pride and is enshrined in the National World War II Memorial. After the war, Pete attended dry cleaner and presser training in New York City and became an independent businessman who owned and operated several dry cleaning businesses from the late 1940s until the late 1980s. He worked as a dry cleaner and tailor in multiple locations in New Jersey and in his hometown of Johnstown. Pete leaves a legacy of love for his family and will always be remembered as a wonderful father and teacher. His passion for life was displayed by his ever-present smile. His survivors include his daughters, Diane (Bob Sears), Barbara (Frank Lee), Patricia (Rod Thompson), Theresa (Carl Teisch) and Christine (Al Bardroff). Pete is survived by seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren of whom he was always very proud and loved very much, Michael (Marcy), Todd (Christina) Sears, Jennifer Willis, Justin and Adam Teisch, Eric and Daniel Stumpf; great-grandchildren, Michael, Rebecca and Giancarlo Sears. Also survived by three of his six siblings. He was the big brother who was admired, loved and respected by his sisters, Rose Perry and Beatrice Magyar, and brother, Samuel Mazzarese (Mary), all of Johnstown. Preceded in death by brothers, Charles, John and Angelo. Pete also is survived by friends and many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins and their families. A special thanks to Carmen, his caregiver and personal angel for nearly two years. She took him to Liberty State Park and Hudson Mall where “Mr. Peter” made many friends and ate his favorite lunch at Popeye’s Chicken. Any time friends and family were together, it was always a great event full of fun and laughs that will remain lifelong memories in the hearts of everyone who knew Pete. Viewing for friends and family was held Nov. 21 at Greenville Memorial Home, 374 Danforth Ave., Jersey City, N.J. Funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 23, at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Church, Bayonne, N.J. Additional viewing will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, at Frank Duca Funeral Home, Westmont Chapel, 1622 Menoher Blvd. Johnstown, with funeral service to follow at 11:30 a.m., Father Matthew Misurda. Interment, St. Anthony Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested for St. Anthony High School, 175 Eighth St., Jersey City, N.J. 07302. Condolences may be sent to www.ducafuneralhome.com.
