Matthew I. Jackson

SOUTH FORK — JACKSON – Matthew I. “Stoney,” 91, formerly of South Fork and Salix, died Dec. 9, 2012.  Born Aug. 10, 1921, in South Fork, son of the late Matthew and Mary (Wilson) Jackson. Preceded in death by wife, H. Elizabeth “Betty” (Good) Jackson, who died March 2, 2000.  Survived by children, James, married to Doris DeRosa, Hernando, Fla.; David, married to JoAnn Selepack, Rockville, Md.; Gretchen, wife of Karl Rummel, Salix; and Gary, married to Sue Reber, Birdsboro; grandchildren, Jason Jackson; Kristy (Jordan) Smith; Matthew (Sarah) Rummel; Karen Rummel; and Kelsey and Derrick Jackson; great-grandchildren, Jackson Rummel and Madison, Dane and Jace Smith; brother, Glenn Sr.; sister, Shirley Russell, both of South Fork; and numerous nieces and nephews. During World War II Stoney served in the European Theater with Co. C of the 752nd Railway Operating Battalion.  He was a conductor for the PRR, its successor, Penn Central, and retired from Conrail after many years of service.  Before pursuing a career on the railroad, Stoney graduated from the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science and was associated with the Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home for many years. Member of Wesley United Methodist Church, South Fork; South Fork Lions Club; South Fork American Legion Post 653; South Fork VFW Post 7524; and United Transportation Union 632.  Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home Inc., South Fork, where funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, the Rev. Arlene Bobrowicz and the Rev. John Weaver. Interment, South Fork Cemetery.  Military graveside service by St. Michael American Legion Post 551. Memorial service at 7 p.m. Tuesday by South Fork Lions Club. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Presbyterian Home, 787 Goucher St., Johnstown, Pa. 15905. (www.dimondfuneralhome.com)
