W. Thomas Berriman

CHESTERBROOK — BERRIMAN –  W. Thomas, 81, Chesterbrook, Pa., died Jan. 10, 2012, in Somerville, N.J. after a short illness. He was born and raised in Johnstown, the son of Walter T. Berriman and Martha Rose Berriman.  Following his father’s death, his mother married the Hon. George W. Griffith, president judge of the Cambria County Court of Common Pleas.  Mr. Berriman graduated from the University of Pittsburgh and the Law School of the University of Pennsylvania, where he served as an editor of the Law Review and was elected to the Order of the Coif.  He worked at a Philadelphia law firm and as corporate counsel to several Philadelphia corporations before starting his own law firm in King of Prussia in 1974, the first in the area to specialize in health and hospital law.  Active in that legal specialty, Mr. Berriman served as a director and president of the American Society of Hospital Attorneys of the American Hospital Association and on various committees and sections of the American, Pennsylvania and Philadelphia bar associations.  His firm grew rapidly and merged with Wolf, Block, Schorr and Solis-Cohen of Philadelphia, from which he retired as a partner in 1997. Mr. Berriman adhered to a long family tradition of civic activity, with a variety of community organizations.  He was a founder and the first president of the Great Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce and a charter member of the Rotary Club of Chesterbrook.  He also served for a number of years as a director and president of the Tri- County Concerts Association, a local chamber music presenting organization. Later, Mr. Berriman also reveled in his retirement, expanding upon his lifetime love of travel by traveling the breadth of the world in his last years. He also further involved himself in investment circles and taught continuing education classes locally. Mr. Berriman is survived by his four children, Sarah H. Berriman, wife of Stephen Clif Brown, Arvada, Colo.; Ann E. Berriman, Doylestown, Pa.; Susan B. Bova, wife of James W. Bova, Branchburg, N.J.; and Thomas J. Berriman, who is married to Tracy A. Berriman, of Potomac, Md.  He had always taken a particular delight in his grandchildren, J. David Bova, Katherine J. Bova, Elizabeth J. Berriman, T. Alexander Berriman, Julia Rose Berriman and Will Thomas Berriman, and in his “Colorado family,” Matthew, Jennifer, Noah, Grace and Hannah Douglas and J. William Brown.  Mr. Berriman was married to the former Nancy Jordan of Johnstown for many years, until their marriage ended in divorce, although they remained friends and neighbors. Burial occurred on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012, at Grandview Cemetery, Johnstown.  In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that contributions be made to the Johnstown High School Scholarship Fund.

Should the speed limit on sections of the Pennsylvania Turnpike and related highways be raised to 70 mph from 65 mph.

Yes.
No.
I don't care because I never travel on those tolled roadways.
