DAVIDSVILLE — PICKENS – Edith Jane, 91, Laurel View Village, Davidsville, formerly of Kings Highway, Altoona, died Thursday morning, March 7, 2013, at Memorial Medical Center. Born March 4, 1922, in Altoona, daughter of the late Harry L. and Elizabeth M. “Bessie” (Saylor) Haigh. She married Dorsey Bernon Pickens Nov. 24, 1945, in Altoona. He preceded her in death March 6, 2000. Surviving are granddaughters, Jamie Kathryn Flick, Friendswood, Texas, formerly of Johnstown; and Emily Kasprzyk, San Francisco, Calif.; great-grandsons, Kyle, Ryan and Bryce Flick; daughter-in-law, Kristen Kasprzyk, Johnstown; and cousins, Amy Perchy, Todd Coleman and Lois Cliber. Preceded in death by son, Bernon LeRoy Pickens; and brothers, John, George, Clifton and James Haigh. Mrs. Pickens was a member of the former Fifth Avenue United Methodist Church, Altoona. She was a 1940 graduate of Altoona High School. Jane was active in the church and mission school. She was an avid reader and also was a volunteer for Contact Altoona and her local homemakers group. Friends will be received from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, March 9, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona, where funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. with Rev. Charles L. Baughman officiating. Interment, Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wehnwood United Methodist Church, 2511 Juniata Gap Road, Altoona, Pa. 16601.
