PORTAGE — POLLOCK – Frank D., 84, Portage, passed away Jan. 2, 2013, at Memorial Medical Center. Born Jan. 3, 1928, in Homer City, son of John and Helen (Zilinskie) Pollock. Preceded in death by parents; brothers, Joseph and Edward Pollock; and sisters, Mary Jackanic, Anne Ogden and Bernice Hvezda. Survived by loving wife of 61 years, Jean (Cowher) Pollock, whom he married Jan. 20, 1950; daughters, Deborah, wife of Jonathan Mackovyak, Portage; Connie, wife of Thomas Seip, Boynton Beach, Fla.; and Sharon, wife of Russell Shoff, Portage; grandchildren, Jason Mackovyak, and wife, Krista; Justin Mackovyak, and wife, Shari; Carla Shoff; and Christopher Shoff; and great-grandchildren, Olivia Mackovyak and Jacob Mackovyak. Brother of Richard Pollock, and wife, Beverly, Portage; and Betty (Nick) Costantino, Pittsburgh. He attended Portage Township High School and was a player on the 1944-1945 championship football team. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in Japan. He started a steel construction company called Kent Steel Co. and erected buildings throughout Pennsylvania. Member of the Ironworkers Local Union 3. He enjoyed farming with his brother and was an avid gardener. Frank wintered in Florida with his wife at the home of their daughter and son-in-law. He was a loyal Steelers fan and enjoyed watching the games. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Serenko-Claar Funeral Home, PC, Portage. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph’s Church, Father Walter Moll, celebrant. Committal, St. Brigid’s Cemetery, Lilly. Military rites by Portage Veterans Ritual Team. In lieu of flowers, family suggests donations be made to Portage Ambulance.
