LILLY — ERZAL – Paul R. Sr. “Ertz,” 84, Lilly, passed away Jan. 8, 2013, at Memorial Medical Center, with his family by his side. Born Feb. 9, 1928, in Portage, son of Rudolph and Dorothy (Burke) Erzal. Preceded in death by parents; sisters, Ruth Urich and Mary Catherine Erzal; and brothers, William and Robert Erzal. Survived by loving wife of 66 years, Doris (Godish) Erzal; children, Paul R. Erzal Jr., and wife, Jeanne (Dupirack), Portage; Sharon A. (Erzal), and husband, Rudy “Skip” Galayda, Johnstown; and Patrick E. Erzal, and wife, Cindy (Thibedeaux), Lilly; grandchildren, Paul Erzal III, Matthew Erzal, Daniel Erzal, Jennifer (Erzal) Ream, Kim Galayda and Nathan and Ian Erzal; great-grandchildren, Hope Galayda, Sebastian Kissell and Whitney Ream; and great-great-grandson, Hayden Galayda. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Brother of Sister Marie Chabanel (Shirley); Rose Marie, wife of Michael Kuchera; and Jean, wife of Richard Smalley. Ertz was a gentle man who lived life with a great joy and love for his family. Former member of Portage Bulldogs Semi-Pro Football Team and Jamestown Rod & Gun Club. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and he enjoyed all sports. He and his family hold dearly many fond memories of his camp at Poe Valley. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Matthew R. Decort Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., Portage, where vigil service will be held that afternoon. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of the Alleghenies Church, Lilly, Monsignor John R. Sasway, celebrant. Committal, St. Brigid Cemetery, Lilly.
