Barbara Louise (Shriver) Orris

UNIONTOWN — ORRIS – Barbara Louise “Sue” (Shriver), 61, South Union Township, Uniontown, Pa., went home to be with her Lord and Savior Friday, Jan. 18, 2013. Born Sept. 4, 1951, in Hampton, Va., daughter of the late Margaret B. (Miller) Shriver, affectionately known as “Dopey.”  Also preceded in death by Ralph and Emily Mellott, who raised her; her brother, William  Armen “Bucky” Shriver; and her aunt, Pearl “Poots” Miller. Sue was raised in Johnstown and graduated from Westmont Hilltop in 1969. She resided in Uniontown for the past 37 years and was affiliated with the Covenant Baptist Church on Union Street. Sue enjoyed crocheting and plastic canvas crafts.  She loved M&Ms, which she tried, in vain, to keep hidden from her children. She was known for her chocolate chip cookies, which were enjoyed by all and were a major attraction of every family event. Sue met her husband, Ron, at Westmont Baptist Church at a church event where Sue served Ron her famous chocolate chip cookies.  They were married Aug. 11, 1973.  Over the next nearly 40 years, she was a homemaker who taught her children to laugh, to bake, to behave and to honor God.  She and Ron shared their love for Jesus, the author of their salvation, in whom they trust will once again unite them together with Him. “Be still, my soul: the hour is hastening on when we shall be forever with the Lord. When disappointment, grief and fear are gone, sorrow forgot, love’s purest joys restored. Be still, my soul: when change and tears are past, all safe and blessed we shall meet at last.” Sue is survived by her loving husband, Ronald L. Orris; her four children, Melody Collins, and husband, John, Uniontown; Andrew Orris, Lemont Furnace, Pa.; Tyler Orris, and wife, Leann, Uniontown; and Daniel Orris, Uniontown; her grandson, Marshall Collins, and her grandbaby due at the end of April; her cousins who were like sisters, Barbara (Mellott) Hunt, and husband, Charles “Butch,”  Johnstown, and Dorothy “Sis” Mellott, and husband, Paul, McConnellsburg, Pa.; her sister-in-law, Linda Shriver, Johnstown; and her brother- in-law, Dewey Orris, and his wife, Linda “Sue,” Johnstown. Sue was an aunt and great-aunt to many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at the Dean C. Whitmarsh Funeral Home, 134 W. Church St., Fairchance, Pa.,  where service will be held at 8 p.m., Pastor Dennis Cox and Pastor Mark Edwards officiating. Additional visitation will be held from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, at Westmont United Methodist Church, 1428 Menoher Blvd., Johnstown, Pa. 15905, where service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Graveside committal following at Grandview Cemetery.
