Gerri Marie (Lynch) Nunemaker

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — NUNEMAKER – Gerri (Geraldine) Marie (Lynch), 85, a recent resident of The Laurels in Highland Creek, Charlotte, N.C., a longtime former resident of Arbutus Park Manor, Johnstown, and originally from Oil City, Pa., peacefully returned home to her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, at Levine & Dickson Hospice House, Huntersville, N.C., surrounded by loved ones. Born Dec. 21, 1927, the youngest daughter and middle child of the late (World War I veteran) Jeremiah Michael and the late Mabel Matilda (Hewitt) Lynch of Oil City, Pa. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by son, Michael E. Nunemaker, Alta Loma, Calif.; great-granddaughter, Evelyn Rose (DeMuro) Lacey, Charlotte, N.C.; husband, Chaplain (Colonel) (Retired, Army of the United States) Harold E. Nunemaker, Van, Pa.; sister and sister’s husband, Margaret “Peg” (Lynch) and William Owens, Kenosha, Wis.; brother and brother’s former wife, Jim and Marge Lynch, Cranberry, Pa.; brother-in-law, Claire (Corky) Nunemaker, Columbus, Ind.; and sister-in-law and sister-in-law’s husband, Dolores “Dee” (Nunemaker) and Richard Frederick, Easton, Pa. Survived by daughters, Pat (Mark) Arndt, Harrisburg, N.C.; Debbie Krumenacker, Richmond, Va.; and Nancy (Ron) DeMuro, Charlotte, N.C.; son, Hans (Adriana) Nunemaker, Laredo, Texas; daughter-in-law, Carol (Mike) Nunemaker, Alta Loma, Calif.; goddaughter, Gretchen (Ken) Wagner, Hermitage, Pa.; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces, other family and countless friends. Gerri was a devoted mother and a true American patriot, having moved her family around the world numerous times at the whim of the U.S. Army, and having endured her husband and both sons seeing combat in four different wars during four different decades. Gerri was known by her remarkable charisma, unflappable “Irish” humor, unbelievable strength of character, friendly and outgoing nature, extreme generosity and unshakable faith in God. Gerri loved music and was the consummate dancer and a frustrated drummer, her hands and feet always searching for a beat, and always finding a song appropriate for the moment. Service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, at McEwen Funeral Service Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Charlotte, N.C. 28227, 704-545-4864. Interment, Grove Hill Cemetery in Oil City, Pa., in the future. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Arbutus Park Manor by visiting the following website: http://arbutusparkmanor.com/make_a_donation.html.
