PEORIA, ARIZ. — MERLINO – Joseph H., 97, Peoria, Ariz., died Feb. 16, 2013, in Hospice of Arizona after a short illness. Born Jan. 8, 1916, in Greensburg, son of the late Joseph and Maria Manchini Merlino. He worked for Baltimore Life Insurance Co. and LCBA prior to retirement. His greatest love was music and he led the Jack Merlin Orchestra for 65 years starting in Pennsylvania with his five brothers, and then continuing with the band when relocating to Arizona. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Eleanor; brothers, Louis, Nick and John; and sisters, Elsie, Elizabeth and Camille. Survived by his wife of 43 years, Lila G.; daughter, Mary Theresa Davies (husband, Bill), Arizona; son, Robert Merlino, California; grandson, Anthony, California (wife, April); and great-grandchildren, Isabella and Noah. Also surviving are brothers, Paul, New Hampshire; and Bernard, New Jersey; along with stepsons, Ron, Larry and Jeff; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 27, at St. Joachim & St. Anne Roman Catholic Church in Sun City, Ariz., where he served as an usher for several years. He was a kind and gentle soul, loving husband and father who will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
