Helen (Petro) Pallo

JOHNSTOWN — PALLO – Helen (Petro), 90, St. Jude Haven, formerly of Windber, went to be with the Lord Feb. 26, 2013, at St. Jude Haven. Born Oct. 24, 1922, in Windber, daughter of Nick and Susan (Gulyva) Petro. Preceded in death by parents; husband, Steve J. Pallo; brothers, Nick, John, Joe and George Petro; sisters, Pauline Leveski and Susan Bartek; son-in-law, Sam Lepley; and great-granddaughter, Heather Miller. Survived by children, Monica, wife of Don Wissinger, Richland; Stephen Pallo, and wife, Kathy (Wozny), Windber; Patti, wife of Al Bartek, Pittsburgh; and Joe Pallo, and wife, Kim (Hoffman), Windber; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. Helen operated Petro’s Amoco Service Station on Route 56 during World War II for her brothers, Nick and John. She was a seamstress at Bestform Foundations in the 1960s and a clerk at Leone’s Italian Market in the 1970s.  Helen was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed sewing, cooking and listening to the oldies. She attended daily Mass and would always light a candle and say a prayer for family and friends. Member of Ladies Pennsylvania Slovak Catholic Union and also served as an Eucharistic minister volunteer at Windber Medical Center. Member of SS. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church, Windber, where Helen served as a Eucharistic minister and was a member of the Mary Guild and Stephen Ministries and where funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, the Rev. George M. Gulash. Committal, church cemetery, East End, Windber. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at William Kisiel Funeral Home, Windber, where vigil for the deceased will be held. In lieu of flowers, family requests donations may be made to St. Jude’s Haven or Windber Hospice in Helen’s memory.
