William C. McMullen Jr.

NORTHERN CAMBRIA — McMULLEN – William “Bill” C. Jr., 86, Northern Cambria, died Aug. 7, 2012, at his home. Born Feb. 7, 1926, in Spangler, son of William C. Sr. and Agnes (McTigue) McMullen. Preceded in death by parents and sister, Betty Lantzy. Survived by loving wife of 66 years, the former Beatrice Sgro; sons, William C. III, and wife, Holly (Snider), Leesburg, Va.; and F. Daniel (Shelly Krull), Altoona; daughter, Kathleen, and husband, Richard Loman, Dalton; grandchildren, Michael, Lynne, Tess and Sophie McMullen; and Christopher and Corey Loman; brothers, Paul (Nancy), Butler; Robert (Naomi), Carrolltown; Ronald (Janis), Northern Cambria; James (Patricia), Medina, Ohio; Charles (Janet), Willoughby, Ohio; and Patrick (Diane), Northern Cambria; and sisters, Mary Ellen (Thomas) Lowe, Dallas, Texas; and Shirel (Paul) Lefko, Indiana. Also survived by 34 nieces and nephews. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II with the 410th Anti-Aircraft/Anti-Tank Battalion assigned to the 5th and 7th Armies in Europe and returned to the United States following defeat of Germany in 1945. He participated in combat operations in Northern Africa, Sicily, Italy, France and Germany. After the war, he was a well-known Commercial Life Insurance agent and later served as a Pennsylvania State Sealer of Weights & Measures, Cambria County District Magistrate and county investigator for Domestic Relations, having retired in 1992. Active member of Barnesboro American Legion (past commander of Post 508); VFW; Mossbarn Lodge, Wharton; and Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Bill was a loving husband, father and grandfather who loved hunting and fishing and golfing at Cambrian Hills Country Club. He will be sadly missed by his entire family and large circle of friends. Family and friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Long-Contres Funeral Home Inc., Northern Cambria, where vigil for the deceased will be held. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Father Chad Ficorilli, OSB. Committal, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted by local veterans organizations. Special thanks to the many caregivers at Horizon Hospice who made his final days as comfortable as possible.
