WINDBER — MAZEY – Forrest D., 71, Windber, went to be with his Lord and Savior Feb. 25, 2013. Born May 26, 1941, son of the late Albert and Thelma (Brown) Mazey. Also preceded in death by sister, Charlene. Survived by sons, Brian, and wife, Casey, Philadelphia, and Randy, and wife, Amanda, Morgantown, W.Va.; grandchildren, Weston and Sierra, Morgantown, W.Va.; and many adopted families and friends including Colosimos, Ditzlers, Watkins and Wallaces. Avid sportsman, Forrest spent his life enjoying his passions, baseball, hunting, fishing, shooting in archery leagues and walking with his dog, Pebbles. Lifetime Penn State football fan, who attended many wonderful Saturday’s in Happy Valley with his family. Forrest also was a fan of the San Francisco Giants and spent a lot of time enjoying Johnstown hockey. One of his greatest enjoyments in life was watching his sons, Brian and Randy, play competitive sports. As a grandfather, he enjoyed spending time and creating memories with his beloved grandchildren, Weston and Sierra, this was his single greatest pleasure. Forrest traveled often to Texas for hunts and Canada for fishing trips. A fierce competitor, Forrest was very proud of his family record for bagging a whitetail buck in Pennsylvania for 47 consecutive years. Another record still not broken (1978) was 89 foul shots in a row. Forrest loved being around people and enjoyed the company of many great friends through his lifetime. He loved to go out for a meal and share a laugh. Forrest had an outstanding baseball career as a pitcher and hitter in the AAABA League. He won 17 games in a row as a pitcher, including a no hitter at age 16. He pitched two games for Lower Cambria in the 1958 AAABA tournament. He played or coached in 11 AAABA tournaments, including the 2001 Gallikers team that was the only Johnstown entry to win its first five games. He also was very instrumental in getting boys baseball and girls softball started at United High School. Forrest was a member of Cooper Avenue Methodist Church. He was employed by North American Coal, Berkebile Bros. Construction and Windber Area School District. The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. until time of service at 7 p.m. Thursday at Meek & Dalla Valle Funeral Home Inc., Windber, Pastor Guy Myers, officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Forrest D. Mazey Baseball Scholarship Fund, checks payable to Randy Mazey, c/o Forrest D.
